Welcome to another Tickled Tip Tuesday. Today I am going to show you something I have learnt not so long ago. Mind you this has been around for a long time. I made a card using fabric but wanted the vintage look and so this is what I did to get the affect and then it hit me, I am forever sponging to get this effect. WHAT am I talking about?
TEA BAG DOILIES
You will need the following...- Paper Doilies
- Tea Bag
- Plate
- Boiling Water
- Paper Towel or other...
- Heat Gun (optional)
So in the picture below you can see the paper doilies a plate and the tea bag. A plate that isn't completely flat would be ideal.
So as you can see below I have popped the tea bag in the plate and the boiling water. You can then allow to sit for a stronger colour or pull it out sooner for a weak colour. It wont matter if the water cools, you do not need it boiling or warm, cold works just as well.
After you have gotten the right colour you desire. Pop in your paper doily like I have below. Now you can allow to sit for 5 to 10 minutes or pull out sooner, it's all up to you and the colour/vintage look your after.
Once you have the colour you like, pull it out and place on some paper towel to soak up all the excess water. NOW I do this if I am in a hurry. I grab my heat gun to dry my doily. Be careful not to burn your doily while doing this.
What is great is you can get as many done as you like. Just keep repeating the above process on as many doilies as you like to always have some on hand. Below I have now taken my square doily.
And then below is a bunch of Tea Bag Doilies... As you can see some are light, dark and medium in colour and I LOVE using them all.
Here is a tag card I made using the lightest doily in the picture above. Sometimes to get a little more effect I might ink sponge the edges but that is all.
Something so simple and easy and I hope that in some ways I have helped some of you do something you have always wondered how or just made your crafting that little easier.

lovely .. thanks for sharing. Might just go and make myself a cup of tea now :)
Thanks for showing us this great idea Kellie! i have to tell you that in the picture of the square one, it looked pink to me which made me think that if you got different kinds of tea, say chamomile for instance, or pomegranate (one of my favorites) you could have different colors of doilies - of course that would not be the same vintage loveliness that you have achieved, but it would be fun :) Hugs!
